PYEONGCHANG OLYMPIC DOWNTOWN CELEBRATION

Colorado Springs, CO –  The PyeongChang Olympic Downtown Celebration will celebrate the Opening Ceremony of the 2018 Winter Olympic Games on Friday, February 9th, from 5-10 p.m. in downtown Colorado Springs at Tejon Street & Pikes Peak Avenue.  This celebration is a city-wide event that is FREE and OPEN TO THE PUBLIC.  Join us for live entertainment, interactive activities for kids and families and food! There will be a Korean theme so appropriate dress is encouraged, or support Team USA and wear your red, white and blue.

SPECIAL GUEST OLYMPIAN – Eric Heiden, 1980 Lake Placid Winter Olympic Games – Speedskater, will be lighting the Olympic City USA caudlron to kick off the event.  Eric won an unprecedented 5 individual gold medlas and set four Olympic records and one world record at the 1980 Games.  He is the most successful athlete from a single edition of the Olympic Winter Games and was inducted into the U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame in 1983.  Only the country of East Germany (9) and the Soviet Union (10) won more gold medals than Eric in the 1980 Olympic Games.  Come and watch him light the cauldron at the NBC Stage (on Tejon Street, north of Colorado Avenue) at approximately 5:28 pm, and maybe get a chance for a photo and an autograph.
