Colorado Springs, CO – On Friday, June 22, 2018, at 2:07 AM,the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) received a report of a traffic collision in the intersection of North Powers Boulevard and East Palmer Park Boulevard. Responding officers located a motorcycle that had crashed.
The investigation into this investigation was conducted by the Major Accident Unit. Investigators have preliminarily determined the motorcycle was northbound on North Powers Boulevard approaching the intersection with East Palmer Park Boulevard. The motorcycle lost control in the intersection and struck a curb. The adult male driver of the motorcycle was pronounced deceased. His identity is not being released at this time, and the motorcycle was not carrying any passengers.
The Second Fatal Traffic Collision was on Friday, June 22, 2018, at 2:15 AM, CSPD received a report of a vehicle collision at the intersection of North Hancock Avenue and Nichols Boulevard. Responding officers found a sport utility vehicle had struck the bridge. An adult male driver and an adult male passenger were located in the vehicle.
The investigation into this collision was conducted by the Major Accident Unit. Investigators have preliminarily determined the vehicle was traveling eastbound on Nichols Boulevard approaching North Hancock Avenue, when it ran a stop sign and collided with the east side of the bridge. The driver of the vehicle was seriously injured and transported to an area hospital for medical treatment. The passenger was pronounced deceased.
The driver has been identified as 44-year-old Kevin Werre of Colorado Springs. He has been arrested for Vehicular Homicide and Driving Under the Influence – Alcohol. Alcohol is believed to be a factor in this crash.
These are the 22nd and 23rd traffic fatalities in Colorado Springs this year. There were 14 traffic fatalities in Colorado Springs at this time in 2017.
