Colorado State Patrol Press Release – Two Law Enforcement Vehicles were struck on May 11, 2014 within one hour just after 7 p.m. two law enforcement vehicles were struck while aiding motorists. The first happened at 7:02 p.m. when a Jefferson County Sheriff’s Deputy vehicle was struck by a Dodge Durango. The second happened at 7:38 p.m. when a CSP Trooper vehicle was stuck by a Kia sedan. The Jefferson County Deputy was on Highway 285 at milepost 240, just north of Conifer, assisting a motorist who has slid off the road. The deputy was stopped on the side of the road when the Durango traveling northbound lost control and struck the Jefferson County vehicle. The deputy was transported to an area hospital for unknown injuries. The driver of the Durango, an adult female, suffered no injuries, however 2 passengers were transported for precautionary reasons from that vehicle.
The CSP Trooper was on Highway 285 at milepost 187, just north of Fairplay. The trooper was investigating a single vehicle crash on the side of the road, when the northbound Kia lost control, crossed the center line and hit the trooper’s vehicle head-on. The trooper had a passenger in the backseat of the patrol vehicle (the driver from the initial crash) who was not injured. The trooper was transported to an area hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the Kia was not injured, however a passenger was transported to an area hospital for possible injuries.
