Three Arrested in Colorado Springs Robberies

Colorado Springs, CO – Beginning in January of 2017, the Colorado Springs Police Department’s (CSPD) Violent Crimes Section, Robbery Unit, investigated a series of business robberies which occurred at various locations throughout the city. During these robberies, several masked suspects armed with weapons would enter the business and flee with cash and other items. During the commission of a robbery on February 15, 2017, at 3381 North Academy Boulevard, Empire Wine and Liquor, Mr. Donat Herr was tragically shot and killed. Mr. Herr was an owner of the store.

On the morning of March 2, 2017, the CSPD Tactical Enforcement Unit (TEU) and the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT) executed several search warrants related to this investigation. The focus of these warrants was to collect evidence and to arrest suspects identified through the investigation. On this date, investigators arrested 19 year old Dustin Cole Logan, 18 year old Phinehas Tyree Daniels, and a third juvenile male. These arrests were made for their connection to the following local robberies:

02/06/17 Kum & Go 2422 Research Parkway
02/06/ 17 7-Eleven 331 S. Hancock Avenue
02/15/17 Empire Liquors 3381 N. Academy Boulevard

On March 6, 2017, the CSPD Homicide Unit served an additional arrest warrant on 18 year old Phinehas Tyree Daniels and the aforementioned juvenile male. These warrants were for charges to include First Degree Murder for the death of Mr. Herr. Both suspects remain in custody. Detectives are continuing their investigation and additional arrests related to the robbery pattern are anticipated.
