The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office is asking for help to identify a suspect who attempted to lure a child into his vehicle at approximately 7:55 AM on Saturday, August 18, 2012, near the Widefield Community Center.
The suspect approached the victim while driving a burgundy, newer Dodge or Chevrolet extended cab pickup truck. The bed of the truck was loaded with a stack of white chairs secured with a chain. The suspect exited the truck, approached the victim and asked if she had seen his dog, which the suspect said was a “Miniature Dachshund.” When the victim said she did not see the dog, the suspect asked if she could come with him, in his truck to help find the dog. As the victim walked away, the suspect followed in the truck maintaining pace with the victim as she began to run. When the victim reached the Widefield High School football field, the suspect was gone.
The suspect is described as a white male, 60-65 years old, fairly tall, average build, clean shaven, wearing white sneakers, jeans, an unknown color polo shirt, and a blue baseball cap with yellow writing.
Remind your children not to talk to strangers, to run and get help and not get into any vehicles. Let them know they should report any suspicious behavior to a trusted adult immediately.
Anyone with information about the suspect is asked to call the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office non-emergent line at 390-5555.
