Silver Key Senior Services and the El Paso County Fountain Valley Senior Center are working together provide Meals on Wheels in the Fountain/Security/Widefield area. Silver Key, the Meals on Wheels provider in Colorado Springs, has received a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) to provide meals to underserved seniors (60+) outside the city. There are currently openings to receive the meals under the grant.
Silver Key Senior Services has been the Meals on Wheels provider in Colorado Springs for more than 40 years, preparing hot, freshly made meals on site, and delivering them to seniors in the greater Colorado Springs area. These meals are delivered by hundreds of volunteers, Monday through Friday between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. In 2013, more than 52,000 meals were delivered.
Under the expansion, the Fountain Valley Senior Center will administer the volunteer component of the program, recruiting, screening, and training volunteers to deliver the meals in the new service delivery area. Silver Key will enroll seniors receiving the meals, prepare the food and deliver it to the Fountain Valley Senior Center for distribution by the volunteers.
