Second Arrest Made in the Cressey Homicide

El Paso County, Colorado

Through a cooperative effort between the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office, the Phoenix Police Department and the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office, a second arrest has been made in the Daniel Cressey homicide.

Mr. Cressey was murdered at a home in the 5000 block of Hopkins Drive in Security and his body disposed of in Fountain Creek in Pueblo County; the body was discovered on May 28, 2014.  Investigators from EPSO arrested Jessy Jo Jewel Barnes on June 11, 2014, charging her with First Degree Murder for the death of Mr. Cressey.

As the investigation continued, information was gained which showed 48 year old Howard Box was also involved and an arrest warrant was obtained for Mr. Box for Accessory to First Degree Murder.  During this same time, it was learned Mr. Box had fled Colorado for Arizona.  Investigators from EPSO coordinated with the Phoenix Police Department who took Mr. Box into custody during the early morning hours of June 13, 2014 and booked him into the Maricopa County Jail.

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office extends its appreciation to the Phoenix Police Department for their assistance with the investigation and to the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office for their coordination with our investigators and our subsequent interview with Mr. Box.  Details surrounding Mr. Box’s extradition to Colorado will be determined at a later date.
