Peterson AFB Access Changes for April 24, 2020

Peterson AFB Access Changes for April 24, 2020

Colorado Springs, CO – Starting Friday, April 24, everyone entering Peterson AFB and Cheyenne Mountain AFS must possess a DoD issued identification card. Some examples include the Common Access Card (CAC) and retiree and dependent identification cards. Nobody will be allowed to vouch for passengers in their vehicles. Everyone must have an authorized DoD credential.

People who do not have an authorized base credential, but have an acceptable purpose and need to enter the installation may be issued a visitor pass by security forces. Visitor passes can be issued at the Peterson and CMAFS visitor control centers, Monday thru Friday from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. During non-duty hours, visitor passes for Peterson AFB will only be issued at the west gate. After hour visitor passes for CMAFS will be issued at their main gate on NORAD Road.

All authorized delivery services coming through the east gate commercial vehicle search area will still be allowed on base once the drivers and passengers are vetted.

During this difficult time we are attempting to balance the safety and security of the customers we serve. The servicemembers of both installations will appreciate your understanding and cooperation with this necessary precaution.

Expired CAC and Uniformed Services ID Cards: With restrictions on travel and office closures, there are and will continue to be individuals with expired DoD identification cards who are unable to access a military personnel center to replace their expired cards. Therefore, effective immediately, Installation Access Controllers may accept an expired DoD Common Access Card or Uniformed Services ID Card (such as those issued to dependents or retirees) as long as the printed expiration date is January 1, 2020 or later. This exception will remain in place until further guidance is given on the period of time for this short-term exception. The credential must be successfully verified using an electronic physical access control system. An expired CAC or USID that fails to electronically verify may not be accepted, but shall not be confiscated unless believed to be counterfeit. Expired credentials of any other type remain subject to confiscation.

We would like to emphasize the USAF will NOT be confiscating expired CACs or USIDs during this time, unless believed to be counterfeit. It is imperative that all installation Security Forces, including augmentation forces are aware of this interim guidance exception to policy.

Visitor Control Center: The VCCs at both Peterson AFB and Cheyenne Mountain Air Force Station are open Monday-Friday from 0700 to 1400 hours.

Gate Closures: The North Gate is closed for inbound and outbound traffic until further notice.
