El Paso County Household Hazardous Waste Facility will provide proper disposal of various materials free to residents. The facility is open Monday-Friday 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. every second Saturday of the month from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 3255 Akers Drive, Colorado Springs, CO 80922 on the following dates:

Many products used in the home, garden, garage and hobby shop contain hazardous chemicals that can potentially harm the user or the environment. Anything marked “caution,” “keep out of reach of children,” “danger,” “poison,” “hazardous,” “flammable,” “harmful or fatal if swallowed,” “causes severe burns on contact,” “do not use near heat or flame,” “vapor harmful,” “eye and skin irritant,” or “use in a well-ventilated area” should be considered hazardous. Use safety precautions when using, storing, transporting or disposing of any hazardous products. When discarding these products, they become household hazardous waste requiring proper disposal. Hazardous waste must be in labeled, non-leaking containers that can be left at the site. Call 719-520-7871 for information. Tires NOT accepted. Accepted items:
PORCELAIN – Toilets, sinks, ceramic tiles, etc. Items must be self-unloaded. The County is partnering with Colorado Springs Utilities to recycle crushed porcelain for use in local roads.
MEDICAL WASTE – Liquid medicines, ointments, patches, inhalers, and pills. Put pills (no controlled substances) in a sealable bag; add water to soften pills into a paste. Remove personal and drug information from items amd place in a sealable bag, separate from pills. Put medical sharps in a certified medical sharps container from a pharmacy or a clean plastic liquid detergent bottle with a narrow neck and a screw lid.
BASIC RECYCLABLES – Aluminum, paper, cardboard, glass containers, metal cans, and plastics #1-7. All cardboard and paperboard must be flattened – NO FOOD RESIDUE – clean containers only.
DATA MEDIA – Audio and video tapes, CDs, DVDs, BluRay discs, game cartridges, etc.
HOUSEHOLD CHEMICALS – Aerosols, ammonia, ammunition, batteries, bleach, cleaners (carpet, drain, oven, toilet), cooking & lamp oils, cosmetics, degreasers, deodorizers, fire extinguishers, fireworks, floor cleaners/waxes, fluorescent lights & ballasts, furniture polish/wax, gunpowder, laundry products, mercury, mothballs, photographic chemicals, propane & butane tanks (1-lb & 20-lb), rust removers, silver cleaners, spot removers, etc.
PAINTS – Stains, Solvents, Latex, oil-based, aerosol, and hobby paints; lacquers, solvents, stains, strippers, thinners, varnishes, etc.
LAWN & GARDEN CHEMICALS – Lawn and houseplant fertilizers, herbicides, insecticides, pesticides, rodent poisons, wood preservatives, etc.
AUTOMOTIVE FERTILIZERS – Antifreeze, batteries, brake & transmission fluids, cleaners (bug, tar, chrome, engine, vinyl), contaminated motor oil, self-service uncontaminated motor oil in 5-gallon containers or smaller only, flares, fuels, wax, etc.
ELECTRONICS – Computers, printers, scanners, audio/video equipment, camcorders, cell phones, digital cameras, fax machines, microwave ovens, TVs (19″ or smaller), etc.
