GREAT FATHER’S DAY WEEKEND OPPORTUNITIES AT CHEYENNE MOUNTAIN STATE PARK

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Your dad works hard for you, so why not help him play hard? This Father’s Day weekend, Cheyenne Mountain State Park will be hosting several family activities including a “Big Cats” program, a mystery hike and a youth archery class.

Saturday, June 20

Youth Archery Class – 10 a.m.

Dad, have you enjoyed the sport of archery for many years and now want a way to share this with your kids? For ages eight years and older, we are offering a Youth Archery class on Saturday, June 20 at 10 a.m. that will teach range safety, beginning instruction and offer hands-on practice time. Equipment is provided. Reservations are required, with class size limited to 10 students.

Additionally, an archery practice session is scheduled for 1 p.m. for anyone that has completed the beginners archery class. Both events will take place at the covered target range, offering targets that range from 10 to 80 yards.

Looking for even more adventure? Cross Pine Oaks Road for another opportunity of 28 field targets and numerous life-size, 3D animal targets. This range requires an individual permit for ages 17 and older, available on site for $3/day or at the visitor center for $30/year (expires March 31, 2016).

“Big Cats” Program 7 p.m.

Join state park naturalists to learn about the cats of Colorado at 7 p.m. on Saturday at the Prairie Falcon Amphitheater.

Sunday, June 21

Family Mystery Hike – 1 p.m.

Bring the family for another adventure on an easy 1-mile hike to solve the puzzle during the Family Mystery Hike.

Cheyenne Mountain State Park offers many ways to enjoy the outdoors with your dad. All generations can enjoy trying their hands at geocaching or setting up a picnic at one of the many day use picnic areas. Or get him a gift that will keep on giving all year long, an annual state parks pass. Featuring almost 22 miles of trails for hiking and biking, Cheyenne Mountain State Park offers grand views, wildlife opportunities and adventures for the whole family.

A valid Parks Pass is required on all vehicles entering the park. A day pass is $7. Annual State Parks Passes are available for $70, CMSP Individual Field/3D Range Permits are available for $30 or try a gift certificate so he can choose himself.
