Fountain Creek Watershed District Has Record Year

Fountain Creek Watershed District Has Record Year

2015 proved to be an exciting year for the Fountain Creek Watershed, Flood Control and Greenway District. We achieved a record year for revenue of $450,521. Our expenditures for projects were $372,142.  District administrative expenditures were $21,321, making us one of the most efficient agencies in Colorado.

Our all-volunteer Citizens Advisory Group and Technical Advisory Committee provided over $250,000 of in-kind support to the District for projects and public outreach and education. Creek Week was our biggest and most important public activity. Through grant funding matched by our partner stakeholders we were able to begin, and in some cases complete, watershed master planning projects that will give us a roadmap for future improvements to the Fountain Creek Watershed.

By November 2016 we will have master planned the entire watershed so that the District and our member governments can continue the process of improving our streams by implementing projects for drainage improvements, sedimentation and erosion control, stormwater management, flood control, wetlands protection, protection of forests and wildlife habitats and recreational uses. As we move into 2016, our Board of Directors is working to develop strategies to effectively use future revenues to enhance and expand the District’s impact on watershed improvements throughout El Paso and Pueblo Counties.

With continued support from our member governments, citizen volunteers and the public we serve we can expect to see even more exciting accomplishments in 2016. Thanks to all for your support and involvement in making our watersheds an asset to be enjoyed for generations to come.  Creek Week 2016 will be on September 24th to October 2nd.  Check back for registration information and help with the Fountain Creek cleanup.

Board Meeting on January 22, 2016 at Fountain City Hall from 1:00 – 3:00 pm.
