The Festival of Lights Parade will be held December 6, 2014 starting at 5:50 P.M. in downtown Colorado Springs. The theme for this year’s parade is “Through the Eyes of a Child.” The parade begins at Tejon and St. Vrain and ends at Tejon and Vermijo.

This year Grand Marshall is 101-years-old, Retired Navy Lt. Jim Downing, is the oldest survivor of the attack on Pearl Harbor. He was eating breakfast on shore when the USS West Virginia was attacked. He quickly said goodbye to his new bride, Morena, and headed to help put out fires on board. Jim also began memorizing the names of the dead on board so he could write to the families of those killed saying he was with them in their final moments. Jim was also the captain of the USS Patapsco and was exposed to extreme levels of radiation when the US tested a hydrogen bomb near his ship during the Korean War. Jim lives in Colorado Springs and is very active in his ministry with the Navigators, a worldwide Christian Ministry.

Remember to dress warm and temperatures will be in the low 30’s.  Businesses will be open during the event. Roads will be blocked off during the parade so come early to find parking.
