Drug Take Back Day is Here

Fountain, Colorado
SATURDAY, APRIL 26, 2014 from 10am to 2pm is NATIONAL PRESCRIPTION DRUG TAKE BACK DAY. Do you have any expired or unused prescription medications cluttering up your medicine cabinet? You can get rid of them safely and quickly. This free and anonymous service is available right here at your Fountain Police Department’s lobby where there is a Drop Box available for you to bring in unused medications. (You do not have to wait until April 26th to drop off medication, as this box is in our lobby year round.)

The US Drug Enforcement Administration has sponsored this event for the past several years and nearly 2.8 million pounds of prescription drugs have been turned in. Soaring rates of abuse of prescription drugs – especially painkillers such as Oxycontin and Vicodin are a key reason for the annual event. Abuse rates in the US are alarmingly high according to the DEA, with 6.8 million Americans abusing prescription drugs – nearly twice as many as those using cocaine, heroin, inhalants and hallucinogens combined. Studies also show that most abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including those lifted from home medicine cabinets.

Rid your home of unused medications which can be harmful. (We cannot accept needles and sharps, thermometers, oxygen containers, chemotherapy/radioactive substances or pressurized canisters.) If you need any information, please contact us.

Location:  Fountain Police Department, 222 N Santa Fe Ave., Fountain, CO 80817
