CSP Trooper struck and killed on I-70

COLORADO – A Trooper with the Colorado State Patrol was struck by a vehicle and killed in the line of duty on Friday, June 14.

At approximately 9:40 PM, Trooper William Moden, 37, was working on a crash scene on eastbound Interstate 70 near mile post 234.  While investigating the crash outside of his patrol vehicle, Trooper Moden was struck by another vehicle.  Immediately after Trooper Moden was struck by the vehicle, another Trooper that was on scene began to render aid. 

Trooper Moden was transported by helicopter to the University of Colorado Hospital in Denver.  Despite the best efforts of all the medical personnel and first responders, Trooper Moden was pronounced deceased after arriving at the hospital. 

“Trooper Moden had a big heart and he loved his family and loved being a State Trooper.  All he wanted to do was make a difference.”  Said Colonel Matthew Packard, Chief of the Colorado State Patrol

The details of the crash remain under investigation.  Trooper Moden was a 12 year veteran of the Colorado State Patrol.

Please remember to “Move Over” to the next lane when passing emergency response personnel stopped along all roadways.
