World War II to Present

Fort Carson is a United States Army installation located near Colorado Springs built in 1942 following Japan’s attack on Pearl Harbor.  The post was originally named Camp Carson after the legendary Army Scout, General Christopher “Kit” Carson.  The post later changed its name from Camp Carson to Fort Carson.

Peterson Air Force Base developed as a World War II air support base for Camp Carson and was built in 1942.  The base is located adjacent to the Colorado Springs Municipal Airport.
