PUEBLO, Colo. – The body of a 43 year-old man was pulled from the water Saturday morning at Lake Pueblo State Park.
The man has been identified as Jack Nelson from Fountain, Colo.
Nelson went missing Thursday afternoon after jumping into the water in Boggs Creek Cove. The search for him began Thursday evening but was called off after a few hours because of storms in the area.
The search resumed Friday with more advanced sonar equipment. Colorado Parks and Wildlife Rangers identified a point of interest Friday evening but were unable to enter the water due to more inclement weather.
Recovery efforts were started again Saturday morning at 8 a.m. with assistance from the Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team. The body was located in Boggs Creek Cove around 9:30 a.m. and removed from the water around 10:30 a.m.
CPW closed the South Boat Ramp from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. while the body was removed from the reservoir.
CPW wants to encourage anyone recreating on or near the water to wear a Personal Floatation Device. State law requires anyone younger than 13 to wear one.
CPW also wants to remind everyone that swimming on the main reservoir at Lake Pueblo State Park is prohibited. Swimming is only allowed at the Rock Canyon Swim Beach located below the dam.
