Arrested for Murder of Captain Daniel Chamberlain Lehaman
Colorado Springs, CO  The Colorado Springs Police Department’s Violent Crimes Homicide/Assault Unit obtained an arrest warrant for 27 year old Gilberto Chavez, Jr., a resident of Colorado Springs, for the September 15, 2018, murder of Army Captain Daniel Chamberlain Lehman. Chavez, who was in custody at the Criminal Justice Center on an unrelated case, was charged with First Degree Murder. Captain Lehman’s body was found in the 400 block of East Costilla Street.

Mr. Lehman’s death is the 23rd homicide investigated by the Colorado Springs Police Department in 2018. The City of Colorado Springs had 21 homicides at this time last year. This continues to be an active investigation. 

On September 15, 2018, at approximately 7:14 AM, officers with the Colorado Springs Police Department responded to the area of East Costilla Street and South Wahsatch Avenue on a reported found body. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male, with no signs of life. The Colorado Springs Fire Department confirmed the on-scene death. 

The Colorado Springs Police Department’s Violent Crimes Section responded to the scene and assumed responsibility for this investigation. This death is being investigated as suspicious and continues to be an active investigation. Follow Twitter for updates, as appropriate.
